It is envisaged by the end of the course of training the candidate will be able to answer questions on and perform the correct operation of installing, maintaining and removing abrasive wheels from a range of equipment
Course Content
Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator
Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook and be familiar with other sources of information available including relevant legislation
Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
Be able to locate and identify key controls and explain their functions
Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements
Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for cutting or grinding machine
Select suitable type of abrasive wheel and machine relative to the work being undertaken
Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area and set up safety zone
Prepare the machine for use and operate machinery safely and efficiently
Environmental considerations
Storage and transport of abrasive wheel machine
Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures

NPORS – National Plant Operators Registration Scheme

Awareness (with no practical cutting/grinding): 1/2 day; Theory and practical cutting/grinding: 1 day
